Today we were busy, busy, busy!! We started by waking up at 6:30am and going to one of the hospitals here in Taipei to get my health check. In order for me to get my ARC to work, I have to have a passed health check. So we took the bus and went to the hospital bright and early because we heard that if you get there late you can wait in lines for hours. We got there before it opened and ended up being the second person in line! They checked my tempature, height, weight, eyes, a blood test, and chest X-ray. We have to go back in about 5 days to pick it up.
After the hospital, we took the MRT up to almost the top of the island to a place called Beitou. One of the teachers told us about Beitou...they have hiking trails and lots of hot springs. We walked up to the first hot spring and the gate was closed. We really didn't think anything of it so we kept trekking up the hill and following the signs to the next hot springs and other attractions. Well it was HOT outside and walking uphill in the sun is not fun but we already were there and started so we figured we might as well keep going. We were kind of confused why no one else was where we were....but we kept going anyway and following the signs. We finally get to the top and are sweating and our legs hurt from hiking up so many hills....to find out that everything is CLOSED ONLY ON MONDAY'S! We were so disappointed. We ran back down and hoped on the MRT and decided to go to Taipei 101 next.
Once we got to Taipei 101 we didn't really know what to do so we just walked around the international grocery store called Jason's. Ever since we got here we have been making a list of things that I would want my mom (love you mom) to send us in a package after a month or two of being there. So we thought it would be fun to see if Jason's had some of the things we had on our list. One of the things I love and could not live without for a year is mac and cheese. So we searched this grocery store high and low and had no luck. Therefore, mac and cheese in our care package from my lovely mom is definitely a must. ;)
Once we got home we noticed how much fruit we had in our fridge from the night market so I cut up all of the fruit and veggies while Chris made dinner for us. We froze some bananas for protein shakes and cut up the rest to eat! YUM!
Something interesting- In the states when there is construction going on they use cones, block off roads, etc. Here in Taiwan....they just keep it open and you can walk right through it, jump over cut up roads, and dodge anything they are dumping. Just watch your head for the tractor! haha
